Though I posted this on the twitter and the tumblr, for those of you who don’t keep up with me on either of those sites…here are todays results.
5:53:30 = woo! Clock time was 5:59:00 exactly…one minute later and my time wouldn’t have been official!
Not too shabby. Not quite as good as I would have like but after I hit my wall at about mile 19, my quads tightened up. By mile 25 my chest was aching – partially because of my jog bra, partially because I was exhausted and wheezing. The weather today? Was perfect for running though. Mid sixties, sunny but cool in the shade.
Regardless, I still beat my 2007 MCM time by 1:06:30 – a full minute off my mile average. The first half definitely went better than the second but the hills were a little rough and not having tunes on the course was tougher and made it hard to keep me motivated.
Some amusing things I came accross? A girl singing “Old MacDonald” on the course to keep her motivated, a man who was a retired Police Officer, had lost 55 lbs over the past year after running his first 10k. Today was his first marathon, I also overheard two women who were running a marathon in each of the 50 states.
However, I still had a better time running MCM last year – the crowds were better, the course was better whereas today I swear…I ran out in East Bumblefuck. No lie. If you’ve never been to South Windsor, CT…you’re not missing much. The police officers monitoring the course were…not very encouraging (some were), the staff was not very helpful, and there was little aside from Gu gels on the course – it was a good thing I found my shot blocks yesterday at the expo. They were a lifesaver.
Would I run this race again? Ehh probably not. But it was incredible having Fiance’s family at the finish waiting for me and cheering me on over the course of the last 6 miles – knowing you have that support system is pretty awesome. Fiance has been nothing but supportive of me and my marathon running – even if he stays in bed long after I get up to do my training runs. But his support, and willingness to stand out there for 5+ hours cheering me on and getting up at wee hours of morning for me…is just awesome.
Next up? VT City marathon in May!!! Because you know….even though my knees are killing me and i’m exhausted, and I worry about getting bronchitis again, I totally want to beat my time again.
