Book One. “The Amazing Adventures of a Dietgirl” by Shauna Reid.
I made a goal last year to read 50 books – I came incredibly close reading 47. But this year my goal is 52 books (see#4). There was an awesome op-ed in the WSJ a week or two ago about Karl Rove and President Bush having a contest to see who could read more books in 2008, while I don’t agree with either man’s politics I can respect that kind of friendship. Additionally, I appreciate well read people and apparently President Bush is! He liked “I am Charlotte Simmons” as much as I did!
So this year my goal is to read 52 books. I’m about 20 pages from finishing #1.

The amazing story of Shauna – the protagonist – who loses 175 lbs in about 6 years. The book, originally a blog, is a heartfelt story about her weight loss, body image issues and overcoming both. You can’t help but cheer for her throughout the entire book, wanting her to succeed even if she breaks down a couple of times and suffers both minor gains and major gains while suffering a few bouts of depression.
One particular quote did me in and reminded me of my own goals for this year and reminded me of the finish of my first marathon on 10/28/07.
“So today I’m bursting with pride at how far I’ve come. There is no better feeling in the world than to take your mind and body to a place you thought it couldn’t go; a place you thought it didn’t belong. You should all try it sometime.”
A great motivational book – especially if you’re trying to get in shape. I give it a 4.5 out of 5.
