Yesterday morning hubs and I took his new-to-him bike out for a spin. I had an hour loop down around the mall and down West Street to Taylor Ave and then back up to home via Ridgely in my head – it’s a 7 mile loop or so, so I knew we had the time if we were out of the house by 630a.
Enter scene… Monday night.

The tire was flat. We didn’t know if it had a hole or what so we figured we’d pump it up and see what happened over night. Hoping amongst hopes that it would last at least today til we could get it over to Capital Bikes – the Bike Doctor couldn’t get a new tire on it til next Tuesday which wasn’t going to work for us.
Hubs pumped it up again this morning.
Mile 2. He stopped at a tire store to get a little more air. We’re cruising down West Street to the trail that goes along Poplar Ave behind the library.
Finally we get over to Taylor Ave – mile 5 or so. I’m at the intersection and he’s nowhere to be found. Uh oh. The tire was dead. Thankfully he thinks it just needs a new inner tube, but still. We should ah-hem probably learn how to fix that and have a spare tube on us.
We got hubs’ tires fixed last night (I’m definitely going to get a couple of spare tubes now that I’ve seen them replace them! I think I might be able to do it myself in a jiff if needed) and I bought myself some spankin’ new wheels for the Huffy – they’ll be faster for the tri but weren’t super duper expensive which I felt really good about. Those’ll be in on Friday hopefully so I can Nothing like investing a ton of dough into a bike that was likely bought at K-Mart.
Many thanks to the awesome dudes over at Capital Bicycle in Annapolis for not judging my hand me down!
So this week I really want to get together a little bike pack kit thing. REI has a great list of biking essentials so you can bet that I’ll be checking my list twice to make sure we’re always prepared for future rides.
Tomorrow night is our next ride, we’re going to go up the B&A trail towards Glen Burnie and the airport, I personally would love to go around the airport, but I’m not sure if that’s too far for an evening ride. We’ll see – it’s also supposed to be about 100 degrees so that could certain impact our distance as well.
