I did not do half my workouts last week. #fail
I substituted a BRICK for a painful 4.5 mile run downtown. Starting at 8:30 – when I got in my car the temperature already read 87 degrees. By the time I got back close to an hour later? 96 degrees.
I decided I needed to get some hill work in so I committed myself to running over the Naval Academy Bridge. I should probably do that a few more times considering the run portion of my triathlon which is in less than two weeks now, has some pretty hilly portions of it.
By the time I got over the bridge, I came thisclose to puking my brains out. Somehow I plowed through and finished my run. A shorter run for sure but a run no less.
4.6 miles
56:33 minutes
~12ish/min pace
I didn’t end up doing the BRICK on Sunday as I had hoped. Why not?

this. Jetty. Orange Crushes. Heat. Holy hell was there heat.
So on Sunday I did not set an alarm. Then I got out of bed at 11a. Then I was going to go, really, I was dressed. But my friend invited us to brunch. So we went there instead. And we were going to go for a ride later.
Instead, because we got thwarted by the rain, we packed a picnic and I practiced a little open water swimming.

A little beach action over at Sandy Point.
I did fine in the open water, and quite honestly I’m not worried about the open water swim during my tri, that’s why I’ve been leaning off of the swim workouts and a little more so on the bike. I grew up swimming in lakes and rivers so open water doesn’t freak me out as much up north. Down here? I got a little panicky because of the jellies. And I was afraid a current would sweep me away. But those problems will not be had on the beautiful Lake Waramaug in Connecticut now will they? Nope.
Open water swim, check.
New tires for BRICK? Not checked. Should be in “middle of this week” – dudes. I ordered them two weeks ago. Double-you Tee Eff.
So the brick got rescheduled for tonight – Adam and I are going to bike up the B&A and get ten miles in then do a little run workout after. I’m trying to convince him we should go to the trailhead and bike up the trail, then run up and over the bridge because I need hills on my workout before this race. MORE HILLS PLEASE (remember that Ovaltene commerical? Think of me saying it like that)

Last week I really slacked off and by slacked off I mean I became the queen of excuses. But the problem with me? Is that sometimes when I make excuses hubs is like super enabler. Like SUPER. So really, I’m going to be the queen of excuses again and blame him.
There.
Do you make lots of excuses for skipping workouts??
