Confession:I was a poli sci major in college. I thrived off campaigns, the horse race, and getting into it with friends across the aisles about everything and anything that let us debate issues.
Then I graduated. With big dreams of making a difference. The dreams of poli sci majors in DC, unfortunately, are a dime a dozen. And my big dreams were squashed in the halls of Congress with too many interviews to count and even more rejection letters. Coming in second for my dream job, and realizing that I wasn’t sure I had what it takes.
I found new dreams – bigger dreams that I still have (I still really want to teach some day) – that I can make a difference in different ways…getting the younger generation to care about our government and why it’s so important to use your civic duties.
But still, every two years, I get giddy. This year, I’m just plain annoyed by voter fatigue, but still the act of voting is so NEAT! Think about the people in countries who can’t vote, who don’t have these basic rights.
So regardless of which side of the aisle you fall on – I hope you all got out there and exercised civic responsibility and voted.
Happy Election Day friends!!!
