Recipe: Honey Soy BBQ Wings

by Heidi on February 4, 2013

Hubs and I celebrated the superbowl at home, in the comfort of our sweat pants. We cooked up some beer brats (for him), bought some cupcakes (for both of us – mostly me…) and busted out one of our favorite wing recipes circa Papa Schmidt (we don’t really call my father-in-law that but to differentiate him from Hubs, we’ll roll with it :) )

{Honey BBQ Wings}
12 wings cut in half (about 2 lbs)-makes 24 pieces (we used regular wings. Still made about 2 dozen)
1/4 cup honey
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp oil
2 tbsp catsup
1 tbsp lemon juice (we used half a fresh lemon)
1 tbsp corn startch
1/2 tsp garlic powder

1. Mix honey, soy sauce, oil, catsup, lemon juice, corn starch and garlic powder.
2. Place chicken in a casserole dish or a bowl and pour sauce over wings coating evenly. Let marinade for at least one hour in the refrigerator (the longer the better)
3. Preheat oven to 375.
4. Place wings on slitted oven tray. Brush occasionally with marinade. Turn wings after 20-30 minutes, brush with marinade and cook for additional 20-30 minutes depending on the desired level of crispiness.
5. Serve with ranch or blue cheese. Add a side of hot sauce if you like your wings spicy :)
I’m not a huge wing fan – I generally don’t like foods where my hands get super messy (I usually end up wiping them on my pants and get myself all messy), but these are a FAVORITE of mine. Anything with soy and honey really gets a win in my book.
Finally, just because it’s Beanpot Monday up at my alma mater, and we just beat our crosstown rivals BU, check this out. HAT TRICK FTW!!!!
