5 miler #1

by Heidi on March 11, 2009

Finally got around to running last night. I could tell the Shred video has been helping me – though I definitely think I started out too fast.

My nike+ is shot. I tried it for the first time with my ipod Touch – if anyone has any advice how to calibrate these things – a friend of mine recently indicated that perhaps during the 2007 Marine Corps marathon it told me at mile 20 that I completed the marathon was because I didn’t calibrate it.

She might be onto something.

I digress, so I ran. Realized my Nike+ was NOT recording about a mile and a half into it.

To my best guess, I ran 5.05 miles (thank you mapmyrun.c0m) in about 1:05:00 – the exact time that I left is a guesstimate.

I stopped to walk twice – when i realized my nike+ was being dysfunctional and then again running up Independence Avenue on the House side. I didn’t stretch well (bad Heidi. Bad. Bad). It was cold.

But I ran 5 miles and probably could have kept going which is always a good sign.

Total Distance: 5.14 miles
Time: ~1:05:00
Pace: ~12:40/mile

A little on the slow side, but because my nike+ kicked the bucket, I have no real way to gauge my actual pace. These are my best calculations so m’eh.

For the race(s) I’m shooting for roughly 11:00/mile which would put me in under 5 hours which is my main goal. I’m fairly certain I can do this, I just need to be adamant about my training from here on out :)

Great job on the 5 miles. I’m “shredding” as well. Isn’t it such a great quick workout?

I think (think?!?) the Nike + is only supposed to work with the Nanos. I could be wrong, but I swear I remember hearing that when they first came out.

Nice job on the 5 mile run. You will get to your 11 min/mile goal. I got faith in you.
